Drinking alcohol has always been a staple of student life at Clemson University.

Clemson University is a college where students work hard and play harder, a sentiment that has rung true regardless of the decade. Whether it is the early years of the 1990s to present day in 2019 those who attend the university have been known to enjoy their drinking, it is the drinking culture at the college which has shown a propensity for change. While many things have stayed the same as the years went by it’s the way in which students go about drinking and their attitudes towards it that have been slowly changing to something more positive. The drinking culture present at the university is a set of traditions and social behaviors that dictate how individuals go about using alcohol, and thanks to efforts by students and university officials in the previous years the culture is showing signs of change. The drinking culture present at Clemson University has historically been one that involved partying hard while at the same time watching out for your fellow students, and that is something that is unlikely to change anytime soon. A majority of students at the university choose to partake in activities that involve alcohol however there is not an extreme pressure from peers to drink in order to fit in, which is a welcome change from the stereotypical idea of binge drinking being the only way to find friends and fun in college. Although the general attitude of students towards drinking has stayed relatively the same in past decades, the ways in which the university attempts to educate students on proper alcohol education is an attempt to increase awareness on drinking’s potential dangers so that the culture behind it can become even more transparent and safe. Events involving alcohol have always been a staple of student life at the university and while having fun is always the goal, personal accountability also comes into play when monitoring their drinking.
